Energy Part 1: Basics of Energy

Duration: About 1 hour

Students will recognize that energy is needed to make things work or move and the various forms of energy, namely kinetic, potential, light, electrical, sound and heat energy. They will also recognize that energy cannot be created or eliminated but can be converted from one form to another. On top of that, they will learn to recognize that most of the energy that we require is obtained directly or indirectly from the Sun. They will investigate the potential and kinetic energy of a ball released from various heights using an MGA datalogger with a photogate. They will learn how to handle relevant concept-application questions and further develop their process and thinking skills. The process skills that will be developed through this lesson are: Observing, Comparing, Using datalogger equipment, Inferring and Analyzing.
